About Wichita Mid-Continent Airport

Wichita Mid-Continent AirportWichita-Mid Continent airport is a regional airport located in the heart of Kansas. It serves as an important link to larger airports with non-stop flights to Denver, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta.

It was dedicated on October 31, 1954. It is just south west of the city.

It is the busiest airport in the state of Kansas because Kansas City International Airport is located in Missouri.

Currently the airport has eleven functioning gates. In what is rare in the current day and age, five of the gates do not have jet ways, so passengers walk across the tarmac to get on and off planes at those gates.

A major construction project that will modernize the airport in keeping with Wichita's prominent role in aviation history is underway. All gates at the new facility will have jet ways.

Wichita, Kansas, has been a hub for aviation manufacturing since the inception of the industry. Boeing Company and Cessna Aircraft Company are two manufactures having significant operations there.

Thirteen airlines, with one seasonal carrier, offer scheduled service. There are three Fixed Base Operators, (FBO) general aviation providers, cargo facilities, in all over 60 aviation related businesses.
