About Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport

Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International AirportErnie Renzel had a vision in 1939 of turning San Jose ranch land into an airport to serve the rapidly expanding city. In 1967 the airport was expanded and took its place among the major metropolitan airports. Norman Mineta, a native of San Jose and Secretary of Transportation, gave his name to the airport in 2001. This third largest airport in the San Francisco area is two miles northwest of downtown San Jose.

Construction
In 2010 terminal B was finally completed after almost a decade of construction. It is a very high-tech terminal that had a $1.3 billion price tag. The creation of this terminal meant the demolition of terminal C. The ultra-modernity of this terminal reflects the vision of Silicon Valley. It embodies expanses of natural light, modern art and fixtures that facilitate the usage of computers.

Lodging and cuisine
While there are no hotels within the perimeters of the airport, the very close Doubletree Hotel provides extensive business rooms and large conference centers. Unfortunately, the Admiral's Club is no longer in operation.

There are quite a number of informal cafes and fast food outlets in both terminals. California pizza, Cinnabon, Gordon Bersch and Harbor Express afford a range of culinary establishments.

The stores at the airport are also diverse and include newsagents, DVD rental stores and a wide range of gift shops.

The airport surrounded by numerous and unique attractions, such as the Tech Museum of Innovation and the San Jose Museum of Art.
