About Sacramento International Airport

Sacramento International AirportSacramento International Airport, a public airport located about ten miles from downtown Sacramento, California, services all large commercial flights coming in and out of the city of Sacramento. Originally part of the Sacramento Executive Airport, Sacramento International was broken off and relocated in 1967 under the name Sacramento Metropolitan Airport to make room for a large housing development that was being constructed around the original building. In 2002, the airport flew its first international flights.

Nearly half of flights in and out of Sacramento International are courtesy of Southwest Airlines, which is tailed distantly by United Airlines with around 11% and US Airways at around 5.5%.

Beginning in late 2011, patrons of Sacramento International will be able to enjoy its new four-story Terminal B structure, which has been under construction since June 2008 to replace the outdated Terminal B. Currently, the airport offers a number of food and beverage options, as well as a "quiet room" for those passengers who need time away from the bustle of the terminal. A free Wi-Fi network is also available; however, storage for luggage is not.

Recently achieved, as of late 2010, is reestablished service to Guadalajara, Mexico, which was interrupted in mid-2010 when carrier Mexicana went bankrupt. This international route is now provided by Air Alaska.
