About Orlando International Airport
Orlando International Airport, though over 30 years removed from its military history, retains a piece of the past in its airport code, MCO. Known as McCoy Air Force Base until the mid-1970s, the airport quickly gained the status of an international airport. The facility, which is located at least ten miles from the heart of the city of Orlando, has a varied array of dining and shopping options for travelers. Over 30 restaurants, including McDonald's, Starbuck's, Burger King, and Ruby Tuesday's, are housed within the airport; more than 30 shopping spots can be found within the facility as well, granting patrons a wondrous mixture of options. Though the airport is approximately 12 miles from downtown Orlando, many establishments have sprung up to serve those making the drive to or from MCO.
Functionally, the airport features a high-speed train system, which carries passengers around the airport to reduce strain on travelers and prevent needless delays and overcrowding. There is also a Hyatt Regency hotel located within the main terminal of the airport, a feature that sets Orlando International apart from many airports across the nation. The convenience of the hotel is often needed to maintain passenger comfort in what is the second busiest airport in the state of Florida, serving nearly 35 million passengers every year. Orlando International Airport is fully deserving of its international acclaim.
