Over 80 departures per day take place at Norfolk International Airport.

Norfolk International Airport History
The beginning of the major commercial use of Norfolk International Airport was in 1926, as Norfolk gained notoriety as a center of business and the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Air Service, Inc. opened up service there. Norfolk International Airport was actually founded in 1938, as the city converted its Truxton Manor Golf Course to serve as a commercial airline hub. The first terminal, which was actually permanent, was completed in 1940.

World War II further increased the Norfolk International Airport's importance, as the Air Force division of the Army (not the Air Force) commandeered the establishment for 5 years during the war effort. During these 5 years, they made permanent expansions, which persist to this day. The airport was continually expanded until 2002.
