Newark Airport Ground Transportation

Newark Liberty International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the United States. Situated on the New Jersey Turnpike, it is approximately 17 miles away from Manhattan and 55 miles away from Trenton, New Jersey. The airport serves the New York metropolitan area and is a hub for Continental Airlines.

Driving Directions

From New York City, go through the Holland Tunnel into New Jersey. Take a slight left at NJ-139 W, continue onto US-1 S, and exit toward Newark International Airport Street. Follow airport signs.

From Paramus Park Mall, get on Garden State Parkway S and take Exit 157 to merge onto US-46 W. Merge onto US-46 W and continue onto NJ-21 S. Take the exit toward US-1 and exit toward Newark International Airport Street. Follow airport signs.

From Princeton University, get on US-1 N/Brunswick Pike. Continue on Garden State Parkway N and take Exit 140 for US-22 toward Holland Tunnel. Merge onto US-22 E and take the exit toward US-9 S. Exit toward Newark International Airport Street and follow airport signs.

From Lambertville, get on US-202 N. Take the I-287 N/I-78 E ramp on the left to Morristown, and take exit 21A to merge onto I-78 E toward New York City. Take Exit 57 for NJ-21 N toward Newark. Exit toward Newark International Airport Street and follow airport signs.

From Ocean Grove or Point Pleasant Beach, get on NJ-18 N and exit onto US-9 N. Merge onto Garden State Parkway N and take Exit 140 for US-22/NJ-82 E toward Holland Tunnel. Merge onto US-22 E and take the exit toward US-9 S. Exit toward Newark International Airport Street and follow airport signs.

Ground Transportation

AirTrain is a fast, easy and affordable alternative to driving to the airport. This monorail system connects the airport to stations along the Northeast Corridor Line including Penn Station in New York City and Princeton Station in New Jersey as well as the New Jersey Coast Line, which includes Red Bank and Point Pleasant Beach Stations. At AirTrain's Airport Station, you can make connections to and from Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains. Bus service, taxis and shared-ride shuttle vans are also available.

Inside the airport, you can use electric carts and moving walkways to make traveling within terminals easier. You can also take AirTrain to move between terminals and parking areas. Travel using AirTrain is free within the airport terminals and parking lots.
