Airlines Serving Istanbul Airport

Istanbul Ataturk International Airport (IST) is the main base for Turkish Airlines. It makes perfect sense that Turkey's busiest airport is the hub for the country's largest airline and national flag carrier. Offering direct flights to more than 100 destinations, Turkish Airlines operates more than half of all trips available at Istanbul Ataturk International Airport. More than 20 Turkish destinations are available through this busy airline.

Turkish Airlines is the busiest link between Istanbul and several continents. The Turkish national flag carrier provides non-stop flights to Middle Eastern destinations such as United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. Turkish Airlines fleet flies to important Asian destinations including China, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, India, and South Korea. Of course, there is extensive service to Europe to countries such as Greece, Germany, France, Spain, Romania, and United Kingdom.

Turkish Airlines is also a major link into Russia and former Soviet republics in Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Asia. Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are countries that are on the Turkish Airlines schedule. Some of the major Russian destinations available through Turkish Airlines include Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Yekaterinburg. The Turkish flag carrier also operates trips to Africa and North America. All Turkish Airlines international service is available in Terminal 2. Domestic Turkish Airlines flights depart from Terminal 1.

Another Turkish airline based at Istanbul Ataturk International Airport is Altasjet. This small regional company offers flights to popular Turkish resort areas such as Bodrum, Izmir, and Antalya. These domestic flights are available in Terminal 1. Altasjet is also a popular link to vacation hot spots in Northern Cyprus and Egypt. International Altasjet flights operate at Terminal 2.

Besides Turkish Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines are the only carriers that provide non-stop flights between Istanbul Ataturk International Airport and the United States. Operating in Terminal 2, both of these major U.S. airlines provide trips to the New York Metropolitan Area.

Istanbul Ataturk International Airport is well served by international airlines from Turkey's neighboring countries in Eastern, Central, and Southern Europe. The list of these international carriers includes Air Moldova, Aerosvit Airlines (Ukranian), Croatia Airlines, and Azerbaijan Airlines.

Istanbul's busiest airport is also linked well to the Middle East through airlines such as Emirates, Etihad, Egptyair, Gulf Air, Middle East Airlines, and Saudia. These carriers link Istanbul Ataturk International Airport with major commercial and tourist hubs in the Arab world.
