Airlines Serving Indianapolis International Airport

The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) is located about seven miles southwest of downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.

IND operates approximately 135 passenger flights per day but is also an airport that transports a great deal of cargo. It is the second largest hub for FedEx Express, ranking behind Memphis International Airport. IND is the 22nd busiest cargo airport in the world.

Eight passenger airlines operate out of IND: Air Canada, AirTran, American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, United, and US Airways.

Some of these major airlines work with subsidiary airlines or regional partners. For instance, Delta operates flights, under its Delta Connections name, via Chautauqua, Compass, ExpressJet, GoJet, Pinnacle, and Shuttle America. All Delta and Delta Connection flights operate out of Concourse A, along with Air Canada, United and United Express flights and Vision Airlines, which only offers seasonal flights to Myrtle Beach. All other airlines operate out of Concourse B. American, United and US Airways, like Delta, work through regional partners.

From April 2011-March 2012, over 450,000 passengers traveled to and from Atlanta, Georgia, making it the busiest passenger destination out of IND. Chicago (ORD), Denver, Charlotte, and Dallas round out the top five destination cities for passengers flying out of IND.

Besides domestic flights within the continental U.S., two airlines make regular or seasonal flights to other parts of North America. Air Canada, via Jazz Air, operates regular flights to Toronto, with both Delta and Frontier providing seasonal flights to Cancun, Mexico.

If you count all its regional carriers, Delta is considered the busiest airline at IND, handling over 40 flights a day on average and accounting for about a quarter of all passengers traveling through IND. If you don't count regional carriers, Southwest (which operates only as Southwest Airlines) would be considered the busiest. Southwest provides regular flights to Baltimore, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, and Tampa.
