Airport Hotel Service

Honolulu Airport Ground Transportation

As a major tourist hub, Honolulu International Airport has an extensive transportation system that facilitates travel to every major destination on the Island. The airport is located just five kilometers from the city center, and is directly accessed by either the Nimitz Highway or Interstate H-1. The airport is easily accessible by car, taxi, bus or shuttle.

Inside the Airport

Inside the terminal, look for ground transportation telephone numbers to all major operators at the airport. In October 2009, Honolulu International Airport also opened its air-conditioned concourse connecting the three major terminals. The new concourse has relieved pressure on the existing Wiki Wiki shuttles, which provide an alternate option to commute between terminals.

Waikiki Express Shuttle

For travel outside the airport, one of the best options remains the convenient Airport Waikiki Express shuttle operating from ground level, outside baggage claim. All shuttle dispatchers wear their trademark Yellow jersey allowing passengers to get information and travel assistance. These shuttles provide services to nearly every major hotel inside the city.

Car Rental

For those who would like to rent their own cars, there are six car rental agencies located at the end of ground terminal, opposite to baggage claim G. Passengers can take the free shuttle to car rental site outside baggage claim areas. On-site agencies include Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National. For off-site car rentals, rental companies provide a free shuttle to their closest rental branch.

Other Operators

Almost 80 other prearranged ground transportation services provide pick and drop services to their clients. Customers are advised to contact these companies in advance as one of their representatives will be at the airport to greet the client. These companies are allowed to park their vehicles in the seven designated permitted areas located outside every baggage claim facility. To most passengers, it is the best option to travel outside the city.

Taxi Cabs

Passengers preferring a taxi can get assistance from the staff wearing green t-shirts. These are taxi dispatchers who will assist in hiring a taxi cab. Due to the open-airport taxi management system, there are a variety of taxi companies to choose from. Nevertheless, all taxi cabs are centrally managed by AMPCO Express, which ensures that taxi companies comply with strict legal rules.

Public Bus

Travelers can also take public bus to almost all major destinations around Waikiki. This option is available on the second level beside the center median. The two routes, 19 & 20, operate eastbound via the Nimitz Highway towards the city center. The westbound, 19 & 20 routes, end at either the Hickam Air Force Base or the Pearlridge Shopping Center.

Passengers should also inquire from their respective hotels as some establishments provide free courtesy shuttle to their hotels.
