Guadalajara International Airport Information

Guadalajara International Airport is alternatively known as Miguel Hidalgo Y Costilla International Airport and has an airport code of GDL. It is located approximately 16 kilometers south of downtown Guadalajara. The airport handles almost 7 million passengers annually, with numbers going up each year. It is the second-busiest airport in Mexico for cargo and the third busiest for passengers.

The Guadalajara International Airport has two terminals and two runways. It serves a hub for Aeromexico and Aeromexico Connect. Volaris, Interjet, VivaAerobus, and number of international airlines also serve this airport.

The airport first opened in 1966 and is named after Miguel Hidalgo. Hidalgo is known as the “father of the Mexican Revolution” because he was instrumental in securing independence from Spain. In 2007, major renovations were completed that created a new concourse and four new taxiways for Terminal 1. Terminal 2 was officially opened at this time, also. The airport is so busy for its size that only 30 percent of planes get access to the Terminals through jet ways.
