Dubai Airport Ground Transportation

Dubai International Airport has several transportation options for ground travel. However, within the terminals, there are only shuttles that run between each of the three terminals. Terminals 1 and 3 have regular service every 30 minutes, but the shuttle doesn't always run to Terminal 2, so when returning to the airport, it is best to take a taxi or transportation directly to that terminal if it is the departing one. Travelers arriving in Terminal 2 who have important deadlines should also consider chartering a car, rather than waiting for the shuttle.

Taxi service can be found outside of Terminal 1 on the left. Taxi fare is usually reasonable and the drivers should be tipped the regular 15% that is traditional in the USA. English is the main language in Dubai, so finding a taxi driver that speaks English isn't difficult. Taxis travel to all parts of the city. Rental cars are also available at the airport. Several international companies such as Dollar, Thrifty, Avis, Budget, Hertz and National are located there. It is advisable for eligible travelers over age 25 to have round-trip ticket stubs, a passport, international driver's license and major credit card when renting cars.

Public transit is also an option in Dubai and is generally the most affordable. Before traveling, it is important to understand the Dubai Metro bus system, routes, schedules and fares. These bits of information can be gleaned from their website. It is important to avoid getting lost in Dubai. Bus routes can be confusing to visitors and ending up on the opposite side of the city can be problematic. Fares may change from time to time and are payable in cash, so be sure to have local currency changed when arriving at the airport. The bus lines that run to the airport stop at Terminals 1 and 3. They also stop at the Al Sabkha and Al Ghubaiba bus terminals.

Limousine and town car services are also found in plentiful supply throughout the city. It is best to pre-arrange any pick-up or drop-off rides at the airport. Avoid dealing with companies that are not listed on the airport's website. They only allow certain cars in that have a special license to drive to the airport. There are some companies that try to scam travelers for money by offering rides that won't really go to the airport, so keep this in mind when planning.
