Des Moines Airport Ground Transportation

Specializing in non-stop flights from coast to coast, the Des Moines International Airport is a global gateway for travelers in Iowa and the Midwestern States. The Des Moines International Airport is located south of downtown Des Moines with easy access from local interstates and secondary roads.

Directions By Car
Travelers can easily reach the Des Moines International Airport from I-35, I-235 and I-80 as well as State Route 5 and State Route 65. From the north and west, take I-235 to Martin Luther King Parkway and the intersection of Fleur Drive. The Des Moines International Airport is located on Fleur Drive approximately three miles east of Martin Luther King Parkway. Travelers arriving from the south and east should merge onto State Route 5 from I-80, I-35 or Route 65 and follow the signs for Fleur Drive and the Des Moines Airport.

Parking Options
The Des Moines International Airport operates two parking garages as well as an on-site economy surface lot with an adjacent cell phone waiting area. Short-term, long-term and economy options are available around the clock in the north garage while the south garage offers only long-term options. For streamlined service, travelers can pay with a credit card at specially-marked automated check-out lanes. Complimentary passenger shuttles are available 24/7 for transporting travelers to and from the economy parking lots. Handicapped-accessible parking spaces are available in all parking areas for safety and convenience.

Car Rentals
Car rental reservation desks from nine of the top car rental agencies are located in the lower lever of the terminal near the baggage claim and arrivals area. Travelers can pick up baggage, complete rental paperwork and walk away with the keys without leaving the building. Rental vehicles are located directly outside the terminal, so travelers can get to their final destination as fast as possible without secondary shuttles or wait times.

Ground Transportation
Ground transportation options at the Des Moines International Airport include Des Moines Metro-area buses, destination-specific shuttles to Ames and inter-state transit systems, such as Trailways and Greyhound. For passengers traveling to remote cities and rural areas, hiring a local limousine or taxi is often the most-convenient option. On weekdays, passengers traveling to Des Moines can take the Des Moines Area Regional Transit (DART) bus or a shuttle operated by the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency. Independent para-transit services are also available for passengers with disabilities and special needs.
