About Chicago O'Hare International Airport
The O’Hare International Airport is a major airport located in Chicago, IL. The airport is located at the northwestern most tip of the Chicago city limits and is approximately 17 miles from downtown. Despite its distance from the Chicago central business district, the airport is easily accessible through both public transportation and major road arteries.
The airport terminal was first built in the early 1940s, but was used as a manufacturing center for World War II. In the early 1950s, traffic at Chicago’s other major airport, Midway International Airport, was too high and O’Hare began taking overflow traffic. After an international terminal was opened in 1958, O’Hare became the busier of the two major airports in Chicago. Today, the airport services over 70 million passengers per year, which makes it one of the busiest airports in the world.
O’Hare airport is a frequent destination for business travelers due to Chicago’s vibrant economy and the fact that it is centrally located, which makes it a common layover spot for both business and vacationing travelers. O’Hare offers many different amenities to travelers. Travelers can enjoy the many different bars, restaurants, and shops that are scattered around the airports four different terminals. For those staying overnight, O’Hare is surrounded by dozens of hotels, one of which is located directly on the grounds of the airport.
