Buffalo Airport Ground Transportation

Buffalo Niagara International Airport is located in Cheektowaga, a large suburban town that is about 12 miles east of downtown Buffalo. Besides serving the second largest city in the state of New York, the airport is also used by Canadian passengers because of its close proximity to the province of Ontario. In fact, Niagara Falls is only about 25 miles away from the airport.

Buffalo Niagara International Airport is officially located along Genessee Street. The most popular and only available method of transportation directly to the airport is by roads. Interstate 90, which runs through most of upstate New York in a west-east direction, passes right near the airport, between exits 49 through 51E.

To accommodate the large number of drivers who come to the airport, there are more than 6,850 parking spaces available. Drivers can select from various parking options such as the short term garage or long term parking lots. There are free shuttles that run between the long term parking areas and the terminal. The garage is located right across the terminal, within walking distance. There are also special parking options such as self-pay lanes, Express Pass, and Premium Parking.

Passengers arriving at Buffalo Niagara International Airport can drive off in the car of their choice from any one of six car rental facilities. Additionally, there are several other car rental businesses just around the corner in downtown Cheektowaga.

There is no shortage of ground transportation options at Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Dozens of official limousine, taxi, bus, and shuttle companies serve the airport on a daily basis. For example, passengers can hop on popular bus companies such as Greyhound, Coach Canada, and Megabus. A bus tour operator such as Niagara Scenic Tours will take visitors directly to the world famous Niagara Falls in Canada. Some hotels will also provide free shuttle bus services to its guests who made reservations.

NFTA Metro, which provides public transportation in the Buffalo-Niagara area, also serves the airport. For example, route 204 is known as the Airport-Downtown Express service, which runs between the airport and downtown Buffalo areas such as Court and Pearl Street intersection. From there, it is easy to transfer to dozens of other bus routes which run through the city. Additionally, downtown Buffalo is served by Metro Rail, a subway system.

There aren't any rail services at the airport, but the nearest train stations can be found in Buffalo. In fact, Buffalo-Exchange Street Station and Buffalo-Depew Station are served by long distance Amtrak routes Empire Service, Maple Leaf, and Lake Shore Limited.
