Airlines Serving Brasilia International Airport

Serving the greater Brasilia metropolitan area, Juscelino Kubitschek Brasilia International Airport is the major air travel hub of the region, handling over 10 million passengers annually. It is located only 8 miles (13 km) from downtown Brasilia, and is one of the most modern commercial airports in South America.

The airport was instrumental in the development of the capital city, which was inaugurated in 1960. Since then, the facility has expanded to a dual-terminal layout, with separate domestic and international departure areas. Just east of the commercial airline terminal is the Brasilia Air Base, the most important military facility in the region. Service by commercial carriers includes destinations throughout Brazil, North and South America, and Europe. Air carriers include TAM (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Recife, Salvador, Fortaleza, Belo Horizonte, Miami), TAP Portugal (Lisbon), GOL (Manaus, Fortaleza, Sao Paulo), American Airlines (Miami), Delta Airlines (Atlanta, New York), and LAN Peru (Lima).

Inside the main arrival hall are visitor information desks with multi-lingual personnel and user-friendly touch screen info terminals. The airport contains branches of two of the largest national banks, and over half a dozen ATMs, as well as a currency exchange office. There is one large restaurant and a variety of smaller snack bars in the food court area. Wide ranges of shops are located throughout the airport, including bookstores, music supplies and gift item retailers. The VIP lounge has fax and Internet service as well as a postal station.

Choices of ground transportation include licensed taxis, which can be found outside the arrivals area, rental cars, and municipal bus service to downtown Brasilia. The airport is connected to the central business district and all outlying areas by freeway and surface roads. A small number of hotels are located near the airport itself, and some offer a free shuttle service to and from the terminal building. Most major hotels are located near to or in the city center.

The airport has recently undergone renovation and further expansion, and there is now significantly more open space. A landscaped interior with modern artwork has transformed the entire facility into one of the most comfortable commercial air terminals to be found anywhere. Brasilia International Airport is completely equipped to handle passengers with disabilities, including ramps and elevators that are easily accessed by those in wheelchairs. TTD service is available and restroom facilities are designed with special toilets and cleansing areas for the disabled.

Parking at the airport is at the main central lot in front of the terminals area, with both short and long term rates available.
