Baltimore Airport Ground Transportation

Baltimore International Airport is officially known as Baltimore/Washington Marshall International Airport (BWI). It is named in part because it serves the Washington D.C. area. Marshall was added to the name in 2007 to honor the former Supreme Court Justice and Maryland native Thurgood Marshall. The airport is located about ten miles south of downtown Baltimore and is a short drive to the nation's capital.

Getting to and from the airport is easy with the many different transportation options available at BWI. You can get to or from the Baltimore International Airport by car, taxi, limousine, airport shuttle, bus or train.

Take your own car or hire a private car service. There is easy access to and from the airport with a number of major highways just a few miles away. Plenty of parking is available at BWI.

The airport taxi stand is located near the baggage claim area on the lower level of the BWI Marshall terminal. You can only take a BWI Marshall taxicab from the airport. For those who need transportation to the airport, there are a number of local taxicab companies willing and able to provide the service. All service by BWI Marshall taxis is metered. They are prohibited from charging a flat rate.

If you want to travel in style, you can hire a chauffered limousine or luxury sedan. The Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area is served by PrivateCar/RMA Worldwide Chauffered Transportation. A professional driver will pick you up or drop you off. You can call or make reservations online. Special rates are available for groups.

Airport Shuttle Bus
There are three different shuttle services available at BWI Marshall. The Airport Shuttle covers the entire state of Maryland. They have a door-to-door reservation service that monitors passenger flight times and allows them to be waiting at the curb when you get off your flight and walk outside with your baggage.

SuperShuttle is one of the world's biggest airport shuttle companies and they provide 24 hour service throughout the state of Maryland as well as service to Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia.

Bay Runner Shuttle provides service to the Eastern Shore of maryland. Cities served include Salisbury, Easton, Cambridge, Ocean Pines and Ocean City.

Train Service
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) provides light rail service to downtown Baltimore and several other areas. MARC is another rail line that provides expanded service to and from BWI Marshall. Finally, for longer trips, Amtrak is available.
