Airlines Serving Austin International Airport

Southwest Airlines is one of the most popular carriers in the United States, and it is the most prominent airline at Austin Bergstrom International Airport. The airline, which is based in Dallas, Texas, serves a number of destinations with non-stop service from Austin. These destinations include Atlanta, Chicago Midway, Dallas Love, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Nashville, Phoenix, and Washington National. Southwest also owns AirTran Airlines, which offers international service from Austin to Cancun, Mexico. Additionally, AirTran provides flights to Houston's Hobby Airport.

One of the most prominent flights provided by Southwest is the so-called Nerd Bird flight. This particular flight travels between the cities of Austin, Texas, and San Jose, California, and it got its nickname because of the large number of technology companies that exist in the two cities. Although Southwest provides this flight, it was once administered by American Airlines, then by Alaska Airlines before Southwest took over the route.

Even though Southwest is the most prominent carrier at Austin Bergstrom International Airport, American Airlines provides service to the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas region which is the most popular destination for those flying out of Austin. Approximately 616,000 passengers make the flight from Austin to Dallas/Fort Worth each year, and all of them fly on American Airlines. American also offers excellent service to Chicago's O'Hare airport, New York's JFK airport and LAX in Los Angeles.

United Airlines is another prominent carrier at the Austin airport. United, along with Continental Airlines, offers service to Houston, Texas, which is the second-most popular destination for those flying from Austin. Over 350,000 individuals fly from Austin to Houston annually, and most of them choose United as their airline. United also offers service to Denver, Colorado, which is the third-most popular destination for travelers flying from Bergstrom International Airport in Austin. United also operates flights to Newark, New Jersey as well as Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C.

Several of the airlines that fly out of the Austin offer numerous destinations for passengers, but airlines like Alaska Airlines and Frontier Airlines specialize in providing service to a single destination. Alaska Airlines offers convenient service to Seattle and Tacoma Washington's SeaTac airport, while Frontier Airlines provides flights from Austin to Denver, Colorado, which is where Frontier is based. Branson Air Express is another airline that offers service from Austin, Texas to a single destination. In this case, the destination is the popular tourist city of Branson, Missouri. These flights only operate seasonally, however.
